InvestBraga and Zet Gallery renewed the concession of "Teresa Walking" artwork for another two years. The project, by British visual artist Julian Opie, can be seen in the main square of Altice Forum Braga until October 2022.
For the Mayor of Braga Municipality and InvestBraga, Ricardo Rio, "this contemporary work of art is already a hallmark of the Altice Forum Braga and represents the commitment of the Zet Gallery and the DST group to enhance the city's public spaces. It is with great satisfaction that we welcome initiatives of this nature on the part of local agents, who have shown a strong connection to the City of Braga ”.
José Teixeira, president of the dst group, highlights that “public art with refined curatorship, which is the case of ´Teresa´ by Julian Opie, changes the use of spaces. Put an order in the spaces, on the one hand. On the other hand, public artworks like morphine, connecting the Zen side of the brain. Beauty inspires. The dstgroup is interested in this possibility of individual inspiration. ´Teresa´ is working. As long as it continues, it will continue to run, like Alice in ´Alice in Wonderland´, so as not to leave the same place. ”
The “Teresa Walking installation” is part of one of the most relevant collections of contemporary art in the world. Julian Opie was inspired by the art, design and language of different artistic genres, through a female figure and the act of walking and running.
His work is characterized by the formal language and simplicity in the representation of figures, landscapes and portraits, which result from the digital alterations created by the author. The work, visible in the square at the main entrance of the Altice Forum Braga, runs and walks in profile, alien to the viewer as if it were an Egyptian figure
Julian Opie is one of the leading visual artists of New British Sculpture, having reached stardom when he embraced the design project for the British band Blur's 2000 album, which followed, for example, in 2006, by an LED projection to present the U2's Vertigo tour.
