Description
The XVI Annual Conference of UNESCO's Creative Cities Network will be held in Braga from July 1 to 5. The meeting, which is expected to attract around 600 delegates from all over the world, has as its main objective the creation of a transnational space for discussion, aimed at exchanging experiences around ideas, good practices and public policies in the area of culture.
Taking place during the 20th anniversary of the network's creation, the Conference aims to take stock of the work carried out, foster new ideas for collaboration between creative cities in different countries, while pointing out solutions for a future inhabited by more resilient, inclusive and sustainable cities.
To this end, the XVI UNESCO Creative Cities Conference will have a special focus on the contribution that new generations can make to building new ideas and projects. This focus is embodied in the invitation to young people to participate in moments of discussion and fieldwork, thus paving the way for the meeting of transition policies in critical areas such as social inclusion or the environment.
With the Forum Braga as its central venue - where the work of the different delegations will take place, as well as the main presentation and discussion panels - the XVI Creative Cities Conference will also organize a meeting especially aimed at mayors, as well as a wide-ranging program of cultural activities open to the public. The latter, to be implemented in various spaces in the center of Braga, will include proposals in the different creative areas covered by the network: Crafts and Folk Arts, Cinema, Design, Gastronomy, Literature, Music and Media Arts; and will be free to access.
Alongside Braga (Creative City in Media Arts), the XVI Creative Cities Conference will also include actions developed in partnership with the cities of Amarante (Creative City in Music), Barcelos (Creative City in Crafts and Folk Arts) and Santa Maria da Feira (Creative City in Gastronomy).
The full program of the event, as well as the guest speakers, will be announced shortly.
